Q. I'm interested in knowing how Canada's landlord/tenant system differs from the U.S. In Canada each province has its own Residential Tenancies Act that is law. Both landlords and tenants must abide by this Act in their respective province. Tenancy agreements must comply to the letter with these Acts. If there is a dispute, the tenant or landlord does not take the other to small claims court. They apply for 'dispute resolution' or 'arbitration'. Disputes are settled by an arbitrator, not a judge.
