The Employment Research Institute (ERI) is a Research and Knowledge Transfer Centre, based at the Business School, Edinburgh Napier University.

Research Areas

The ERI specialises in four key research themes:

  • Employability
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Economic Development
  • Equalities

The ERI has conducted research and evaluations for a wide range of stakeholders including European Commission; the Equality and Human Rights Commission; the UK Government’s Sector Skills Development Agency; Scottish Rugby Union; the Joseph Rountree Foundation; and the European Social Fund.

The ERI has also been commissioned by all the key policy stakeholders in Scotland: the Scottish Government; Careers Scotland; Communities Scotland; Scottish Enterprise; the Scottish Trade Union Congress; COSLA; Scottish Business in the Community; and numerous LECs and local authorities.

The ERI has been conducting rigorous, independent and influential research since 1998. It is currently headed by Professor Ron McQuaid who is supported by nine permanent research staff as well as over 30 associate staff from across the Business School.

Seminar Series

The ERI runs a highly popular research seminar series. This brings influential researchers from across the UK, Europe and beyond to present and discuss latest developments in international employment research. The seminar series is chaired by Dr Ian Elliott. Previous presenters include Professor Etienne Nel (Rhodes University, South Africa); Professor Thomas Lange, (Auckland University of Technology, Australia); Professor Jacques Poot (University of Waikato, New Zealand) and Prof Ravi Kanbur (Cornell University, USA).

help me find a topic for my research paper?plz!? mine was rejected :'(?
Q. well i need a research topic regarding to the problem of our schools its an institute for Information Technology college students like graphic designers, programmer, web development, networking..its a newly build school..and we are the pioneer of it plz help me well i already have a topic but my professor rejected it.. so i just thought about these problems... these are my topics a) about pressure put on to students (from parents, teacher, friends, school) b) cyber bullying c)pros and cons of choosing academic over employment so i hope you could help me find another topic which is very common but an interesting one..execept from those..he told me that those topics are very broad. :( he just approved these topics from my classmates… [cont.]

Q. An employment program launched this week by three nonprofits will attempt to line up temporary employers with temporary workers, including day laborers who might be undocumented. Marinhelpers.com is one person sitting at a desk, connecting workers with laborers by phone and e-mail. But behind the scenes it has been three years in the making. A. Cohen is wrong. Aiding, and abetting illegals is still against the law. So is employing them as well as seeking to help them find employment. Whether it's a business, charity organization, or just a regular person who's doing it.
