Great summer college academic programs for high school students?
Q. What are some of the best and easiest to get in to summer academic college programs for high school students? I'm most interested in the ones that allow students who have just graduated 9th grade. Please tell me some that I can still apply to for this summer and the future that will improve my college apps.

What academic programs would be suitable for a TV/Film industry career?
Q. I want to work in the entertainment industry in the future, be it TV or in movies; video editing, production, studio crew even. What kinds of degree course could let me try all of these out? Or even if it's not film related, what kind of good course would be great for this kind of media stuff?
Asked by Tom - Sun Jul 26 12:35:03 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The film industry does not require you to even have a degree, so unless you need to be spoon fed a film education I'd not recommend a film degree if you want to go into the film industry unless you have researched it and feel you would benefit-- it'd be a giant waste of money otherwise. That said, I needed to be spoon fed because I needed the networking opportunities going to a film school would have given me because I had no idea how to get started by myself. :P There's no shame in going and getting the degree if you want it or feel you need it, but you can't expect it to give you a leg up in this case. They don't care if you have a degree, only about what you can do. It's one of very few industries based on damn near talent and skill… [cont.]

Q. What ivy league colleges offer law or education academic programs for students straight out of high school?
Asked by musicislife:) - Thu Dec 10 19:05:34 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You need a 4-year college degree to apply to any law school, so that's not an option. You can study education at most colleges, and unless you're planning to someday teach education at the college level, getting an ivy league education to teach primary school is a huge waste of money. You'd get the same job you would with a degree from a low-ranked state university.

A. If she's out of high school, look at universities in your state. Some offer extensive programs to help young parents get through--all day daycare, on-campus apartment complexes (that get charged to bursars accounts per-semester and are eligible for financial aid, unlike off-campus apartments), and various other services. I don't know of any services that will provide you with this information, so just try calling admissions offices and seeing what they offer. Good luck!

Are there any programs that aren't academic or military related that would allow me to live in Japan?
Q. I'm really wanting to move to Japan in the next two to three years. I want to find some sort of program that would help allow me to live there. I don't want to get a degree to do so (personal reasons, don't judge) and I do not want to enlist in the military. Any ideas/suggestions?
Asked by Horse R - Fri Jul 18 00:27:34 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you don't have a degree it is really hard to come here and live because most residency visas require at least a bachelor's degree or some other kind of specialized training. I HAVE heard of an ocean lifegaurd exchange program based out of Australia, but I don't know any details about it. You might contact the Japanese Embassy or a local Japanese Consulate in your area. They might be able to point you in the right direction if there are any programs around that would be right for you.

FREE or CHEAP academic summer programs for high school students?
Q. Here is my dilemma: My parents make more than what is considered 'poverty' or 'financial aid worthy' but not enough to pay two, three, or four thousand dollars for a summer program. Are there any academic programs out there that are relatively cheap (preferably under $1,000) or cheap, located anywhere in the U.S. (I am in Ohio)? Thanks! I'm sorry if you misunderstood, but I am NOT 'financial aid worthy' as I put it. My parents make too much for me to get financial aid, but too little for me to be able to afford these programs. I have a 4.0 GPA with a full AP/honors schedule.
Asked by Annamarie - Thu Apr 2 16:09:51 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. there's many in nyc that go in partnership with CUNY and SUNY schools. However that depends on your grades. Just because you're financial aid worthy, doesn't mean you're academically worthy to get into those programs. I suggest you do research online to see what suits you better.

Q. I know that it's a little early to be thinking about this, but i couldn't help but look towards next summer and wonder what i'll be doing then. During that summer I will be going into Senior year, and I was wondering what camps or summer programs look best on resemes when applying for college, preferably an academic program.
Asked by katie - Tue Aug 28 23:52:10 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's never too early to look for programs. I'd suggest any type of leadership enrichment programs. Colleges not only look for participation in special programs but also participation as leaders. As far as academic programs, choose something that will make you look like a well-rounded, intelligent person.

Q. I'm planning to move from Israel to Japan, and I want to complete my bachelor's degree there. I'm looking for an academic institution near Tokyo, that has an academic program in environmental management/studies, or in information technology management, which will enable me to take courses worth at least 20 academic points. Of course, my previous studies in Israel must also be taken into account. So, if you know any - let me know!

In applying to an academic program, is it a problem if my letters of rec are from profs outside of my area?
Q. I am applying to an academic program. My letters of recommendation are from academic professors, but they are outside of my major/focus. For example, I am studying Health Policy and Administration and the letters of recommendation are from a Philosophy professor and a Demography professor. Both applicable to the industry, but not directly in the HPA department. Should i really have a HPA recommendation or should I be okay?

What "Academic Program" would a pre-law student go into?
Q. I'm on the Indiana University Bloomington website, requesting information, and it asks what "Academic Program" I will take. I'm pretty sure I'm going into law. What "Academic Program" would that be considered? -Arts and Sciences -Business -Informatics -Public and Environmental Affairs -Social Work Those are the only ones I could think that law would be considered. I eliminated all the other ones that obviously weren't it (optemetry, etc.) Those ones listed are all I have to choose from.

A. I'm currently studying abroad in London. I did it through Butler University center for study abroad, and doing it through them was honestly the best decision of I could have made. They helped me through the application process, arranged for transportation over here, put on a number of activities, and had an orientation where I met a ton of friends. It's a bit expensive (there is a program fee of about 4k - in addition to the costs of tuition/housing/ect) but it's well worth it. www.ifsa-butler.com Butler has a program for nearly anywhere you could want to study.

Academic rewards programs?
Q. Hello everyone. I am trying to think of some good ideas for academic rewards programs for my school. To clarify, this is when students recieve say a 3.8 GPA or better, they get something at the end of the quarter or semester for continually holding that GPA. What we use to do is if you recieved an A in a class for two semesters, you were excluded from taking semester finals. The board of directors don't want that anymore, so hence lies my problem. I need to come up with some ideas on how to rewards the efforts of these students. Anyone got any ideas? I don't care how dumb they are, please help!

A. Recognition is always good. A large showing of individuals who have made the honor roll or such. I wouldn't concern myself with that much, however. Excellence should be it's own reward. Oh, there's also the option of honor study hall. Those individuals who have made the honor roll (If this is a high school) don't have to go to the regular study hall room. They can take study hall in the student lounge, or wherever.
